Osmosis

In this virtual lab, students conduct an osmosis experiment to observe how water moves across cell membranes in response to different solute concentrations. They begin by weighing four potato cores to record their initial mass before placing them into separate cups containing different solutions. After allowing osmosis to occur for 75 virtual minutes, the student removes and reweighs each potato core to determine its final weight. Using these measurements, they calculate the percent change in mass for each core, analyzing how water movement was influenced by the surrounding solution. The experiment concludes with a graphical data analysis, prompting the student to interpret results and draw conclusions about osmotic behavior in plant cells.
